Introducing ArcWeb Services

ArcWeb Services are hosted Web services that include map data and on-demand geospatial capabilities needed to add real-time locations, addresses, points of interest, dynamic maps, and routing directions to Web and wireless applications. Map data storage, maintenance, and updates are handled by ESRI, eliminating up-front map database, geospatial software, and ongoing maintenance expenses. You can access ArcWeb Services through SOAP, OpenLS, ArcWeb Explorer JavaScript, ArcWeb Explorer Flex, REST, and J2ME Mobile Toolkit APIs. You can also use the ArcWeb site to access ArcWeb Services. The ArcWeb site includes several demos and solutions.

This section of the ArcWeb Developer's Guide introduces the fundamental features of ArcWeb Services.
