NOTE: ESRI Developer Network (EDN) users who have activated their subscription for ArcWeb Services should start with Step 3: Learn about ArcWeb Services.
Once you purchase a block of credits and activate your ArcWeb account, you are ready to use the Web services. If you are new to Web development or want to learn all that ArcWeb Services has to offer, you might want to start with the tutorials and samples. You might also want to browse the ArcWeb site to see the extensive resources that are available for your work with ArcWeb Services. See the Support overview page to learn more about how to get assistance using ArcWeb Services.
Step 1: Purchase ArcWeb Services
NOTE: Purchase of credits is limited to existing ArcWeb customers.
Visit the ArcWeb site to buy blocks of credits for ArcWeb Services, or call ESRI Telebusiness at 800-447-9778 (U.S. orders only). As you make requests to ArcWeb Services, for example, by creating maps or finding addresses, the appropriate number of credits are deducted from your account. You can view your credit usage through your account on the ArcWeb site or through Account Info Web Service. Most requests deduct one credit from your account, but some requests (such as for generating print-quality reports) deduct more and some are free.
You purchase credits for your account in blocks of 100,000, with one-year subscriptions. See Buying credits for more information about credits. After you complete the purchasing process, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with an access code for activating your account on the ArcWeb site (step 2).
Step 2: Activate your ArcWeb account
After purchasing a subscription to ArcWeb Services, you need to activate your account by clicking the URL link in the confirmation e-mail you received from sitemanager@esri.com. The URL takes you to a sign-in page where you enter your ESRI Global Account user name and password (you are given options for creating a new account or retrieving your forgotten password). Once you have successfully signed in, your ArcWeb account is activated and you are ready to use ArcWeb Services.
Step 3: Learn about ArcWeb Services
Before you use ArcWeb Services for the first time, you might want to learn about the different ways you can access ArcWeb Services and go over some of the tutorials and samples. Another easy way to learn about ArcWeb Services is to visit the ArcWeb site and browse through the topics in the Learn tab.
Step 4: Access ArcWeb Services
Access ArcWeb Services through the ArcWeb site or through SOAP, OpenLS, ArcWeb Explorer JavaScript, REST, and J2ME Mobile Toolkit. See Accessing ArcWeb Services for more information on using these developer application programming interfaces to access ArcWeb Services. You can access the ArcWeb site, SOAP, and OpenLS services over HTTP or HTTPS. ArcWeb Explorer JavaScript, ArcWeb Explorer Flex, REST mapping, and J2ME Mobile Toolkit are available over HTTP.
Step 5: View usage
Usage reports show you information such as how many credits you have consumed, how many requests you have made to each service, and which services you accessed. See your ArcWeb usage through Account Info Web Service or My Account on the ArcWeb site. Usage information is available for users and groups.
Step 6 (optional): Upload your own data to use in ArcWeb Services
You can upload your own set of data points and icons for display on map images and spatial query searches. You can also upload your own data layers to create custom services. Upload data through Data Manager Web Service and Builder on the ArcWeb site.
