Testing your application

You can test your wireless location application with the data source ArcWeb:ESRI.LocationTest.NA. This data source allows you to test with sample phone numbers (909-555-1000, 909-555-1001, and 909-555-1002). Bell Mobility users can also test their wireless location applications with the data source ArcWeb:BellMobility.LocationTest.CA. This data source allows you to test with your Bell Mobility number. You may also want to use the interactive live sample to see the functionality of Wireless Location.

Creating data files

Data files must be of type POINT and have a DATE field named "timestamp" (lowercase).

Tracking distance traveled

Get distance traveled on roads by calling Route Finder Web Service with multiple route stops. Route Finder returns the path of the wireless device. The paths are always straight lines.

Setting accuracy

Set precision of your device location request through the object DeviceLocationOptions.accuracy. If you request high accuracy from Sprint and it is not available, Sprint may return low instead. Bell Mobility returns your requested accuracy or throws an error.

High accuracy requests to Sprint should only be performed on approved devices in Idle Mode Query (IMQ) markets. IMQ allows you to query a phone's GPS location when it is not in a voice/data call. See Supported wireless devices for Sprint for a list of currently supported devices. Contact Sprint for a list of IMQ market areas. Currently, GPS queries to idle devices is not authorized.

For Sprint, each accuracy level has its own pricing structure.

Sprint-approved wireless devices

Devices used for location functions must have the ability to transmit high accuracy requests.

For a list of supported cellular phones for Bell Mobility, see the Bell Mobility Web site.

Approved devices for Sprint's Mobile Business Application - CDMA. These devices are 100% compatible with Idle Mode Query (IMQ).

Sanyo VI-2300

Throttling restrictions

Most service providers limit you to sending a single mobile device and not an array of devices in the method getDeviceLocation. Check your service license agreement for throttling details.
