Tutorials on using SOAP toolkits to access ArcWeb Services v2006.1

Web service toolkits, such as Visual Studio .NET and webMethods Glue, simplify the implementation of ArcWeb Services by handling the communication protocol automatically. They are often called frameworks because they are so comprehensive. A toolkit automatically reads the WSDL document and creates the client code for the service.  It converts all parameters and requests into a SOAP message, which it sends to the service. It also takes care of converting the returned SOAP message into a usable object. Some toolkits, such as Visual Studio .NET, create a context menu that displays all the possible methods and arguments.

The tutorials demonstrate how to access ArcWeb Services in various development environments, including ColdFusion MX, .NET (Visual Basic and C#), and Java (Axis and Glue) for desktop applications. There are also tutorials for using WS-Security 1.0 (Axis and .NET only). For Web applications, see Code sample downloads. Each toolkit tutorial assumes you have the toolkit running on your machine and have a basic understanding of how the development environment works.

NOTE:  See Samples—terms and conditions for usage permissions.
