ArcWeb Explorer (AWX) JavaScript API is designed for developers who want to get a working Web-based mapping application up and running without spending a significant amount of time developing code. AWX JavaScript provides access to ArcWeb Services content and a powerful subset of ArcWeb Services functionality. AWX JavaScript is designed primarily to enable easy integration of mapping functionality and content into HTML Web applications. For a look at how this API compares to the others, see the ArcWeb API chart.
The ArcWeb Services implementation of AWX JavaScript allows you to perform the following functions:
AWX JavaScript API documentation includes a Quick-Start Guide on getting started with AWX JavaScript and basic samples, a Quick-Start Plus Guide with more complex samples, built-in map controls, JSdoc, data source information, markers, error messages, and parameter descriptions for AWMarker, Flash variables, group layers, and queryGroupLayer.
NOTE: AWX JavaScript API is not designed for integration into Flash applications built using Action Script or for integration into Adobe Flex applications.
To use AWX JavaScript with ArcWeb Services, you need a Commercial or Public Services license to ArcWeb Services. Most ArcWeb requests consume credits from a user account. See Understanding credits and costs for more information.
ArcWeb Services uses authentication to validate access to its services and data. See the authentication section for details.
