Building spatial query services
You can create spatial query services to perform proximity searches
or return relevant information from your data.
NOTE: You cannot
create spatial query services based on ArcWeb data and layers.
To create a spatial query service
- From the Build Tools main page, click Build Service.
- On the Select a Type of Service page, click Build
a Spatial Query Service.
- On the New Spatial Query Service page, provide
a title and a data source name and click Next.
The data source name is the technical name used for developer access.
As you type the title, the data source name is automatically completed,
but you can change it if you prefer.
- Select a layer to use to create a new spatial
query service. You can only use layers that you have created.
- Click Next.
- On the Service Summary page, define the spatial
query service. You can set the following:
- Fields returned—Click Edit to select the fields
to be used in your query.
- Search filter—To set up a filter, click Edit.
The Set Filter Options page appears. Click Yes to access a filter statement
box and WHERE clause builder. For more information about SQL and WHERE
clauses, see Building WHERE clauses.
- Geographic constraint—Define the extent for
the service. Click the Full Extent link to use the maximum extent allowed
by the content, or type the extent boundaries in the text boxes. If you
prefer to select the extent on a map, click Edit.
- Records returned—Specify the default number
of records to return for each query.
- Distance units—Select either miles or kilometers.
- Click Test to try your service with the new values.
The Service Test page opens and you can test your query with a point,
line, or area.
- Click Next.
- On the Info About This Spatial Query Service page,
provide essential information for the map service.
An orange letter "R"
indicates the required fields. This information becomes metadata that
helps identify your service and explain its features and functionality
to other users.
- Click Save.
A page appears with information about your map service, including service
name, location, and data source name. You can click Share to Group to
make this service available to users in your group. If you share the service,
you can click Notify Group to send an e-mail notification of the new service.
- Click Create Another Spatial Query Service or
click Done to close.
